A VIOLENCE-FREE FUTURE
FOR GIRLS IN ETHIOPIA

WHAT WE ADVOCATE FOR
In the Benishangul-Gumuz region of Ethiopia, girls and young women are particularly at risk of violence. Many are married at an early age, drop out of school, and often become pregnant as teenagers, which poses major health risks for both mother and child. Around 65 percent of women have experienced female genital mutilation, even though the practice is prohibited by law.
In addition, there are strong social expectations: girls must take on heavy work at an early age and are often exposed to sexual violence, exploitation, and forced relationships. Protection or legal support is scarce, and many affected individuals are reluctant to seek help out of fear and shame. Medical care is weak, and only a small portion of the population has access to contraception.

WHAT WE AIM TO ACHIEVE IN COOPERATION
WITH PLAN INTERNATIONAL
The project strengthens adolescents—especially girls and young women—in Benishangul-Gumuz. The goal is to combat violence, female genital mutilation, and child marriage while improving living conditions. Around 20,000 people in 16 villages will participate directly, and approximately 50,000 will be reached indirectly.
Key focus areas:
- Empowering young people through information about health and rights, training in social skills, and protection from violence
- Involving affected individuals, married girls, and young mothers
- Working with parents, teachers, and religious and traditional leaders
- Organizing dialogue events and campaigns to promote gender equality
- Strengthening local structures such as schools, health centers, police, and community bodies
- Providing equipment and coordination to improve support and protection services

OUR CONTRIBUTION TO CHANGE
For every Wonder Eye sold, we donate €2 to PLAN International.
The Wonder Eye is our all-time bestseller. That is exactly why we deliberately chose this product—so we can ensure that donations continue to accumulate over time and that we can make a meaningful, long-term contribution.
Our commitment begins on March 8, 2026, International Women’s Day, a day that stands worldwide for equality and the empowerment of girls and women.
The project will become a permanent part of our brand, with no fixed end date. This way, every purchase becomes more than just a product—it becomes ongoing support for projects that empower and protect girls and women.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
PLAN International is an independent development and humanitarian organization working to ensure that girls and boys worldwide have equal rights and opportunities and can actively shape their futures. To achieve this, we implement efficient and transparent projects for sustainable community development in our partner countries and respond quickly to emergencies and disasters that threaten children’s lives.
Working in more than 45 countries, we collaborate closely with children, young people, supporters, and partners of all genders to reach our global goal: 100 million girls learning, leading, deciding, and fulfilling their full potential. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals reinforce and guide our commitment.
